BRENDAN KENNY

Psychologist

Ben has a curious, enquiring and engaged approach to life which he brings to his clinical practice. His natural warmth, compassion and understanding create a strong foundation for a positive therapeutic relationship with his clients. He applies the principles of trauma-informed practice to his clinical work, enabling clients to develop a sense of safety and trust while prioritising choice, collaboration and empowerment as key therapeutic considerations.  He has a firm belief in the potential for reducing stress and impairment through a person-centred approach and the application of evidence-based therapies. Ben utilises an individualized, integrated approach to treatment which is drawn from his knowledge of CBT, MI, ACT, and DBT. He is passionate about understanding and treating trauma related presentations, particularly CPTSD and PTSD, and he continues to develop clinical competencies related to relational and developmental trauma and their functional consequences.
Ben has a diverse work and personal history which has resulted in a rich lived experience and an understanding of the complexities of the human condition. He has an innate sense of unconditional positive regard for all people, and he ensures that the application of sociocultural considerations are at the forefront of his clinical practice. He is motivated to reduce the stigma of mental health problems in society and provide support for those that may be reluctant to seek help. He has been active in his community, having served in a number of voluntary positions in clubs and financial service providers in his hometown. When he is not in clinic, Ben enjoys the challenge of DIY projects around his home, playing guitar, spending time with his pets and being engaged in outdoor activities.
